Taking in two South American countries Peru and Bolivia. Enjoy incredible scenery from the Inca capital of Machu Picchu and the impressive Lake Titicaca, travel on one of the highest rail journeys in the world to Huancayo before making your way to Bolivia, home of the Salt Flats and the truly unique Luna Salada Hotel.

ITINERARY

Day 1 – Fly to Lima

Fly to Lima via Miami and transfer to your hotel in the Miraflores district.

Day 2 – Lima – City of Kings

A full day’s tour, starting in Miraflores to enjoy the views of the bay and the Pacific Ocean. You view the pre-Hispanic site of Pucllana before heading to Parc de la Amistad where the main attraction is an original steam locomotive from 1926 and a vintage station and ticket office. Continue sightseeing in the afternoon with visits to the Cathedral of Lima, Government Palace and Desamparados station.

Day 3 – Train to Huancayo

An early morning start as you take an amazing train journey to Huancayo. Relax and enjoy the breathtaking scenery, passing through 69 tunnels, crossing 58 bridges, 6 switchbacks and the second highest railway point in the world at the Galera Tunnel,

Day 4 – Huancavelica

You travel by private car to Huancavelica. The afternoon is free to explore this historical city.

Day 5 – Private Transport to Paracas

Sit back and relax as you travel by road taking in the breathtaking landscape that includes snow-capped mountains and lagoons while passing through traditional Andean Towns.

Day 6 – Flight Over the Nazca Lines

You take a flight over the famous Nazca Lines which are best appreciated by air. They are a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site and still remain a mystery as it is not known why they were created by the ancient Nazca people.

Day 7 – The Ballestas Islands

By boat to the Ballestas Islands. During the journey you have an opportunity to appreciate the Candelabro (candlestick) which is thought to have an association with the Nazca Lines. On arrival there is a chance to view the island’s wildlife which includes Humboldt penguins, sea lions and pelicans.

Day 8 – Former Capital of the Inca Empire

A morning flight to Cusco and transfer to your hotel. This afternoon you take a guided walk around the cobbled traditional streets of the San Blas neighbourhood where you visit Maximo Laura Museum before walking across to Hatun Rumiyoq to view the famous 12 Angled Inca Stone. You also visit the Cathederal and complete our tour with a visit to Korincancha, the Incas Temple of the Sun.

Day 9 – The Sacred Valley & Train to Machu Picchu

Visit the famous Pisac Market and get a taste of local life before seeing Ollantaytambo, the impressive archaeological fortress which contains some superb Inca stonework and terracing. You take the afternoon train to Machu Picchu and transfer to your hotel.

Day 10 – Machu Picchu

An early start to see the spectacular sight of Machu Picchu at sunrise before returning to Cusco by train.

Day 11 – Titicaca Train to Puno

You take the spectacular journey on board the Titicaca Train to Puno across the high Altiplano. The train has an observation carriage providing excellent views over the Andean wilderness. Lunch will be served onboard.

Day 12 – Copacabana & La Paz

Transfer by road to Copacabana Sanctuary and board the catamaran cruise to Sun Island, the legendary birthplace of the Inca Empire. You continue by road to La Paz.

Day 13 – To Oruro & Train to Uyuni

Journey by bus to Oruro where you will have time for lunch before boarding our train to Uyuni arriving at your destination late evening.

Day 14 – The Cemetery of Trains

After breakfast you head towards the old mine of Pulacayo, which houses a collection of old locos. You return to Uyuni and visit the Train Cemetery where you find the remains of old rail equipment left to rust in this salt desert.

Day 15 – Tour of Salar de Uyuni

Taking the unpaved road you travel by 4 x 4 vehicle to Colchani, located on the edge of the salt lake. Continue to Incahuasi Island with its amazing huge cacti before heading back across the lake to the truly unique Luna Salada Hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 16 – Flight to La Paz

Fly back to La Paz and enjoy an afternoon tour to include the Witches Market and Murillo Square. You continue with a visit to the spectacular Valley of the Moon and a ceramic workshop with a demonstration of the art of pottery.

Day 17 – La Paz

Visit the epic city of Tiwanaku where the pre-Inca ruins date back to 1580 B.C. Here you see the Kalasasaya (Sun) temple and semi subterranean (Earth) temple, Akapana Pyramid and the legendary Sun Gate. Spend the afternoon visiting the train museum at Guaqui before heading back to the hotel in time for dinner.

Day 18 – Return to Lima

An early morning flight back to Lima. On arrival you will be taken by local guide to Monumental Callao, a neighbourhood dubbed the bohemian part of Callao Port. In every corner, you will find spectacular murals filled with colours and design, created by the hands of talented Peruvian and worldwide artists. Transfer to the airport and your hotel for the night.

Day 19 & 20 – Fly to London

An early departure from Lima back to London.
