ITINERARY

Day 1 – Direct to Holland

Mid-morning departure on the direct Eurostar from London St Pancras to Amsterdam Central. Connect with a local Intercity train to Utrecht for a 3-night stay.

Day 2 – Utrecht Railway Museum

We take the short walk back to Utrecht Central to catch the shuttle train to the Railway Museum. Located in the former Maliebaan Station, this houses an interesting collection of rolling stock, hand-cars and draisines, as well as displays of models and vintage memorabilia. Our visit includes a guided tour and there is a restaurant on-site for lunch (payable locally) if you wish. Travel back to the hotel is at your leisure, giving you the choice to spend more time here, sightsee or use your rail pass.

Day 3 – Hoorn-Medemblik Railway

Discover the historic triangle of North Holland today. An early morning train takes us to Enkhuizen on the coast. Here we board the heritage ferry 'Friesland' to sail to Medemblik where we have just over an hour to enjoy our packed lunch (included) and the historic centre. An optional extra is a visit to the Steam Machine Museum (payable locally). In the afternoon, we take the steam tram to Hoorn where we have time to visit the workshop and view their collection of old locomotives and the working signal box. Return to Utrecht at your leisure, with the option of stopping off in Amsterdam.

Day 4 – Utrecht to Maastricht

After breakfast, travel by rail to Maastricht in the south for a 2-night stay. The afternoon is yours at leisure. This interesting town is well worth exploring – you will find cobbled streets, a Gothic style church, an 18th-Century Fort, a maze of underground tunnels and much more. Alternatively, use your rail pass to venture further afield.

Day 5 – South Limburg Railway

A full day in Southern Limburg. Begin with an Arriva train service to Schin op Geul where we connect with the Miljoenenlijn train to Simpelveld. Next we enjoy a return trip on the cross-border railway to Vetschau in Germany, before settling down to a relaxed lunch at the on-site 'brasserie'. Before returning to Schin op Geul, we take a guided walking tour behind the scenes of the railway and inside the workshop.

Day 6 – To London

Homeward bound this morning after a leisurely start. We take a regional service to Liège, followed by an ICE to Brussels. Arrival into London will be late afternoon.
